Next Post Meeting - October 11, 2023 5:30 pm at Buffo's October Guest Speaker Dr. Steven Kriss, CAPT USN (Retired) Navy Medicine Around the Globe - Navy Field Hospital Dr. Steven Kriss (A Member of Highwood Post 501) commanded a US Navy Field Hospital in East Africa. He will relate through photos & documentaries, the region, culture, mission, dangers, people, and the day to day operations of a Navy Field Hospital in an underdeveloped foreign land. We are proud to include Dr. Kriss as part of our ongoing speaker series. Don't miss this interesting & informative presentation. It is the nation's largest wartime veterans organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continuing devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. The G.I. Bill, Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Flag Code, and Social Security all exist thanks to The American Legion. |
►Highwood American Legion Post 501 received its charter on February 26, 1929 and has been serving veterans of the Armed Forces and the City of Highwood for almost 100 years. ►The Post meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month with the exception of May, June, July, & August. Meetings are normally held at Buffo's, 431 Sheridan Rd in Highwood. In May the Post sponsors & conducts the Memorial Day Ceremonies for the City of Highwood in lieu of our normally scheduled meeting. ►Meetings begin promptly at 5:30 with a short business meeting followed by a presentation by a guest speaker over a complimentary dinner. Past speakers have included: • MOH Recipient Allen Lynch, •Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission - Veterans Assistance •National Museum of the American Sailor "Wings over Lake Michigan" •Captain Jim Hawkins USN Retired-Former Commander Great Lakes •Navy SEAL Master Chief Stephen Drum -"Life on the X" |
